Lancashire man charged with encouraging murder in connection with riots

A man from Lancashire has been charged with 'encouraging an act of murder' in connection with violent disorder in Merseyside.

Andrew McIntyre, 39 years, from Cousins Lane, Rufford, has been charged with encouraging an offence of murder; encouraging an either-way offence namely violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.

He will be appearing at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court today, Saturday, 10 August.

Merseyside police say 24 people in total have now been charged in connection with the disorder in Southport and Liverpool last weekend.

A 16-year-old from Stockbridge Village has been charged with violent disorder, two counts of burglary at non-residential properties, criminal damage to police vehicle amounting to £5000 and assault emergency worker in Liverpool city centre on Saturday, 3 August.

Midnight raids also took place across the region overnight.

Police executed warrants at addresses in Southport, Stockbridge Village and Wavetree.
