As the warm weather continues across Lancashire, the local Fire Brigade are reminding people to stay safe.

Most grass fires are caused by human activity with something as small as a lit cigarette or a spark from a disposable BBQ igniting dry brush and quickly turning into a fast-moving fire.

Station Manager Aubrey Cooper said:

"If it's a windy day a BBQ can blow the embers onto the grass and with such a dry period over a long period of time. The ground is so dry so it doesn't take much to ignite the grass and then fire can spread really quickly."

"If we're going to grass fires we can't then respond to people in the houses in domestic situations and Rd traffic collisions. "

"We've only got so much resources if we're out on the hills, it's taking away the resources from what we need, and it's avoidable incidents that we're trying to get away from."

Other advice includes safely disregarding cigarettes, avoiding bonfires and taking your litter home to stop glass bottles reflecting in the sunlight and igniting the grass.

Wildfires take a large amount of resources and can easily be avoided by being aware of simple ways to stay safe in the warm weather.
