Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a large cannabis grow in Haslingden, Lancashire.

Officers were called to a property in the Hudrake area on Friday, (4th April) after reports of a strong smell coming from the building. Upon entering, they uncovered more than 500 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of £225,000. All plants were seized.

In addition to the grow, officers found that the electricity had been dangerously bypassed. Electricity North West attended the scene to make the property safe.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and enquiries remain ongoing.

Sergeant Paul Marsden of Rossendale Police said: “We will continue to tackle the cultivation of cannabis, as it can cause misery for local communities.

The hidden dangers, including the risk of fire, pose serious threats to both the property and neighbouring homes.

Cannabis cultivation is often wrongly seen as a minor crime, but it can be linked to organised crime groups and modern slavery. It is not something we will tolerate in Lancashire.”

This investigation forms part of Operation Warrior, Lancashire Police’s crackdown on serious and organised crime, which is supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw.

The operation targets organised crime groups and their impact on communities, including drug trafficking, violence, and exploitation.
