Worcestershire mum 'excited' for first Mother's Day after experiencing birth trauma
28-year-old Charlotte Shooter from Droitwich gave birth to her son Arthur last April at the 26-week stage of her pregnancy
A Worcestershire mum who suffered from birth trauma says she can't wait to celebrate her first Mother's Day.
28-year-old Charlotte Shooter from Droitwich gave birth to her son Arthur on the 25 April last year through an emergency caesarean (C-section) at the 26-week stage of her pregnancy, but says it was far from straightforward.
She told us previously the full experience has had a lasting impact on her which has led to her being diagnosed and receiving support for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Charlotte says she can't wait to celebrate today after all they've been through as a family.
"I'm really looking forward to just having a day spent with my little boy and husband," she said.
"To be able to actually experience and celebrate it and say I'm a mum is something I've always dreamt of, I always wanted to be a mum.
"It just means so much to me and us to be able to celebrate it."
Following the birth, Charlotte's son Arthur then spent 120 days in hospital, several of those being in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Eventually they were allowed to take him home on the 25 August, four months on from when he was born.
"I do have mixed feelings about the day itself and I think that come from the experience me, my son and family have had," she said.
"The fact that I can just remember this time last year being around 22 weeks pregnant and thinking I've got all the way until summer to meet my little one, but it was actually just four short weeks that I was going to meet him and meet him when he was really poorly and premature.
"It's that mixed feeling of I can't believe it's nearly been a year since all of this has happened but also it's that celebration that we've made it to this point."
