Worcestershire craft club knits teddies to help children during difficult times
Officers will always have one on hand when dealing with young people.
A craft group from Worcestershire has come together to knit teddies that will be available for officers to use when supporting children.
The teddy bears will be carried inside police vehicles and available for officers to use when attending an incident that involves young people.
It is believed that handing out teddies could help soothe and support children during difficult times.
Jan Lewington, part of Littleton’s craft club said: "Knitting a teddy to give comfort to a child at a difficult time appealed to me. I started knitting immediately after I found the pattern and encouraged my wonderful friends from Littleton’s craft club to join me, which they have done and I hope will continue to do so, when odd balls of wool come their way".
On Tuesday afternoon (28 May) Safer Neighbourhood Team officers, Police Constable Justine Lane and Police Constable Alex Prentice, visited members of Littleton’s craft club to receive the bears.
PC Justine Lane said: “This is another amazing example of how our communities come together to help others. I have always been tremendously proud to be a police officer in Evesham and surrounding villages and it is generosity like this that reminds me what an incredible place this is.
“As police officers we often support young people during their toughest time and something as simple as these wonderful teddies can really help ease stress and anxiety when it is needed. Just the presence of police officers can sometimes make children feel unsettled and these cuddly bears can open a communication channel between them and us”.
