Worcester City councillor says losing cricket at New Road would leave a 'massive hole'
It's after the club said they'd consider leaving the iconic venue to 'secure it's future'
A Worcester city councillor says it's important everyone works together to help the cricket club stay at their ground in the city.
Following a meeting earlier this week, Worcester City Council have vowed to fight to keep cricket at New Road.
Worcestershire County Cricket Club have said previously about potentially moving away to 'secure it's future', following eight floods during the winter.
John Rudge is the councillor who put forward the motion calling for the council to lobby the government for funding and support to help out, and he says the ground plays a vital role in the area.
"Seeing I think any cricket pitch underwater is not a good sight at the best of times, but to see your own underwater is very sad," he said.
"We've had cricket there for 125 years, and you can't really buy history, so the fact that we have so much history at New Road, it seems to me it's something that we should treasure and something we should do everything we possibly can to protect it.
"We know it brings in a lot of people, so there are many reasons that that we want to keep it where it is, and I think it would leave a massive hole if we lost it, so it needs to be a team effort from everyone to find solutions."
