University of Worcester Chief Executive 'delighted' with extra medical student places
It's been allocated 12 new spaces - the highest allocation in the Midlands
The Chief Executive of the University of Worcester says they are delighted to have received additional medical student places.
In total 12 new places have been announced, adding to the 50 revealed in October 2023 for students to begin studying in September 2024.
This comes after the new Elizabeth Garrett Anderson building, which is for the medical students, was formally opened last month.
University of Worcester Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive David Green says it's great news, but they were also disappointed that the overall allocations for 2025 was small.
He said: "I'm very proud of my colleagues who've done such wonderful work in creating a high quality modern medical school, and delighted that we've managed to get these extra 12 places to go with the 50 we got last year.
"At the university, we're focused on trying to help educate and train as many health professionals and various professionals that we can, because they're all suffering from a shortage, but the problem is there were only 350 medical school places for the whole of England made available.
"The fact that we've got medical education at the University of Worcester is great for the future, and we're hoping to grow in the next couple of years so by the time we get to 2030, we have a medical school which has at least 200 UK medical students a year coming to it."
From the 2025/26 academic year, the Three Counties Medical School will now have 62 fully funded places for UK students.
