Pair of police officers to continue work on bringing accessible bleed kits to Stourport
PC Mark Bennett and colleague PC Sam Maher teamed up for an initiative which now sees the Worcestershire town have 11 bleed kits
Two West Mercia Police officers have said they will carry on their work in getting bleed kits added in and around Stourport.
PCs Mark Bennett and Sam Maher from the Stourport Safer Neighbourhood Team worked together to leave the town now having 11 of the kits after seeing them in place in other areas.
The pair reached out to the Daniel Baird Foundation Charity which was set-up in memory of 26-year-old Daniel Baird who was fatally stabbed in Birmingham in July 2017.
Daniel died due to catastrophic bleeding, and the charity was launched to raise awareness of the importance of having publicly accessible bleeding control packs available.
On the initiative, PC Bennett said: "The aim really is to have them publicly accessible in Stourport, much like the community defibrillators.
"We want as many as possible out there, but of course we hope they'll never be needed."
"The aim isn't to bring concern to the town that we've got like a huge knife crime issue," PC Maher added.
"We just wanted to add something into Stourport that adds that bit of safety, that feeling of being safe, that bit of reassurance that there are pieces of really important and sophisticated kit to deal with any catastrophic bleed.
"It was just to make sure that we just had as many resources as we could to make people feel safe and know where these pieces were if they were ever needed."
Kits have been donated to Stourport High School, Burlish Bike Park, and the new youth centre on The Walshes. Other kits can be found at:
- Gore Properties, St Michaels Close
- Elizabeth Mills Centre, Sion Gardens
- Public Access Toilets, Riverside Car Park
- Stourport Community Centre, Lower Lickhill Road
- The Black Star, Mitton Street
- Pinfold Court
