Hundreds of signs up in Worcester to highlight women's safety and International Women's Day
The signs were put up to mark the four-year anniversary of Sarah Everard's murder
Hundreds of stitched signs have been put up in Worcester to spread the message of women's safety and to mark the four-year anniversary of Sarah Everard's murder.
The Worcester Craftivists group are responsible for the work which displays the message of 'Just Walking Home' and the names of women who were abducted, raped and murdered while they were walking home.
Its as events are also set to be held across Herefordshire and Worcestershire today (8 March) to honour International Women's Day.
One of the group's founders Barbara Lowe says it's important to celebrate how far women's rights have came, but to also highlight the issues still in society.
"This time of year it's particularly pertinent to mark the anniversary of Sarah Everard but also to do something celebratory to show off our pride in women," she said.
"For most women, we think about whether we'll be safe going out somewhere, even somewhere ordinary like a shop and particularly after dark you can feel more vulnerable.
"We're going to be making buntings which celebrates inspirational women from history and around the world."
Cathy Growney, who also set-up the group, added: "Sarah was just like any person, your mum, sister or colleague, she was just walking home.
"It brings it back to the reality that this could impact anyone and as men and women I think we should be looking out those signs of abuse and calling out things or comments that aren't right."
An International Women's Day event is due to take place at the Worcester Guildhall and in Hereford a ‘Women at Work’ event is also happening at the NMITE University’s Skylon Campus.
