A former University of Worcester student is set to take part in her third Paralympic games this summer.

The sporting event gets underway two weeks today over in Paris at the opening ceremony, with around 4,400 athletes set to be involved across 22 sports.

Sophie Carrigill made her debut at Rio in 2016, and also featured in the delayed Tokyo games as part of the wheelchair basketball team for Paralympics GB.

She says it's always a nervous experience getting to play on such a major stage, but is excited to see what the side can achieve this time around.

"I think we're at the perfect time for us to bring home a medal," she said.

"It's such a unique experience going to a Paralympic games, so it's important that we have fun along the way as well, but of course you're always trying to be the best that you can be and going for gold is absolutely on our radar.

"When I was at university in Worcester I was training every morning at 7am, so it was a bit of a different experience but one that I would absolutely not change.

"Ultimately those three to four years leading up to Rio allowed me to really make my mark on the Paralympics GB team and get selected for all the tournaments after that."

Their first game comes against Spain on 29 August, before they then play Canada and China in the other two group stage matches.
