Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire set to hold Dementia Festival
They say it aims to educate people on the topic
Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire are running an event next week aimed at educating people on the topic of dementia.
The charity says they want to 'shine a spotlight' on the fact that a dementia diagnosis affects more than just the person diagnosed, and the impact it can have on friends and family.
Worcestershire Dementia Festival will also tackle the stigma surrounding the subject, and how receiving early support can make a difference.
Kelly Reeves is the dementia service manager across both counties for Age UK, and says the event allows them to deliver key information.
She said: "This is really important to help to educate people about dementia and about seeing people beyond that dementia label.
"By raising awareness, we can empower individuals to recognise the signs of dementia early, that way they can seek an earlier diagnosis, so we can then provide supportive care for those that are affected.
"We need to continue to work together to create more inclusive and accessible environments for people with dementia, rather than presenting unnecessary barriers all the time, so that people with dementia can live as independently for as long as possible."
The event runs from the 13th-19th May.
