Police launch an arson investigation after shop fire in Waltham Abbey

The shop sustained extensive damage but thankfully nobody was inside the premises at the time

Essex Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a fire at a shop in Market Square.

It took place at around 2am on Wednesday (15 October).

The shop sustained extensive damage.

No-one was inside the premises at the time and there have been no reports of anyone injured.

Officers are treating it as arson and would welcome any information that could help their investigation.

Extensive enquiries have continued, resulting in the arrest of a 33-year-old man, from London.

He has been questioned on suspicion of arson and released on bail with conditions attached while the investigation continues.

Police are urging anyone with any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to the incident, to get in contact with them.
