Start date confirmed for The Night Manager with Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman
Nine years after the first series!
Last updated 3rd Dec 2025
It's been a huge nine years since the first series of hit thriller The Night Manager aired with Tom Hiddleston, and earlier this year BBC and Prime Video finally announced news of more series, along with the cast!
Revealing Tom will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine, bosses confirmed a second and third series of the thriller, with filming taking place last year. In June 2024, further casting was announced, and now we have some first look photos.
When is it out?
The new series will begin at 9.05pm on 1st January 2026.
What is The Night Manager?
First airing back in February 2016, The Night Manager is a TV thriller series starring the popular actors Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki.
Based on John le Carré's 1993 novel of the same name, writer David Farr adapted the story for TV, with Tom Hiddleston playing the role of a night manager in a luxury hotel in Cairo. Tom's character Jonathan Pine is recruited by the Foreign Office to investigate illegal arms sales.
Series one was a huge hit with viewers across the world, going on to win a number of Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
Is The Night Manager getting another series?
It sure is! Bosses have announced a second and third series of The Night Manager.
Writer David Farr said: "John le Carré's work has long been an inspiration to me and working closely with him on Season 1 was an honour and a pleasure. I did not tread lightly into extending The Night Manager beyond the original book, but an idea came to me a couple of years ago which felt truthful to that unique world of dark corners and shady identities. No one marries the suspense of espionage with a deep exploration of the human soul quite like le Carré.
"I hope that in some way we can pay homage to his uneasy genius in this new exploration. I am thrilled to be working again with Tom Hiddleston, Stephen Garrett and The Ink Factory team, and to be welcoming the brilliant director Georgi Banks-Davies into our ranks.”
What will happen in series two?
The BBC say of series two: 'Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin - a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London - his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva).
'On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army.
'As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late'.

How can I watch it?

Series one is available to watch in full now on BBC iPlayer.
Who is in the cast?
It has been announced that Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine.
Series two of The Night Manager will star Diego Calva, and Emmy Award nominee Camila Morrone alongside Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi, and Hayley Squires.
Speaking about reprising his role, Tom said: "The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect. I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait."
Georgi Banks-Davies, Series two Director added: "I wrote my dream list of actors to join The Night Manager, and I can’t quite believe that I am now welcoming that list of talent to the show. What an incredible cast joining the brilliant Tom Hiddleston for this next chapter… I cannot wait to get them in front of the camera now and see the magic come to life."
In June 2024, further casting was announced, with Olivia Colman being welcomed back as Angela Burr.
Other returning cast members include Alistair Petrie as Sandy Langbourne, Douglas Hodge as Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone as Frisky, and Noah Jupe as Daniel Roper.
Speaking of Olivia's return, Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, said: “Olivia Colman’s award-winning role as Angela Burr in the first series of The Night Manager was unforgettable and we are over the moon that she is back alongside Tom Hiddleston. We have such a strong cast and with Alistair Petrie, Douglas Hodge, Michael Nardone and Noah Jupe also returning, and filming starting in London, the second series of The Night Manager promises to provide even more drama, glamour, intrigue and suspense.”
