Prime Video users will be served adverts from today
There's a way to avoid them
Streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ have all become incredibly popular over the last few years, with many customers enjoying the concept of being able to binge watch shows, with zero adverts.
However, after Netflix introduced a cheaper 'Standard with adverts' plan last year, it's now been confirmed that Prime Video users in the UK will be served adverts on their current accounts from 5th February 2024.
Does Prime Video have adverts?
Amazon have plans to introduce adverts onto their streaming service Prime Video across the world in 2024. Whilst users in the US were served adverts at the end of January, the UK will be a few days later in February.
It's also understood Amazon plan to replicate the ad plan in other countries around the world later in 2024.
When will the adverts start?
The adverts will start in the UK from 5th February 2024. Users won't have to do anything, they'll begin automatically.
Which shows will have adverts?
Although Prime Video already hosts a number of adverts, especially on live sport content, from 5th February all shows on the platform will include adverts.
However, it hasn't yet been revealed how long or how many adverts will feature at one time, or if the adverts will feature during programmes, or at the beginning and end.
Which plans have adverts?
The standard £8.99 per month plan will include adverts from 5th February.
How can I avoid adverts on Prime Video?
If you don't want to be served up any adverts on Prime Video, Amazon are offering a new ad-free plan, which will cost you £2.99 extra per month.
Currently, Prime Video costs users £8.99 per month, meaning the fee will go up to £11.98 if you choose the ad-free plan.
