Jodie Whittaker will be the first female to play the role of Doctor Who and it looks like she's set to have a male companion for the role in the form of actor and quiz show host Bradley Walsh!
Head writer and leading executive producer of Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall, has worked with Bradley on the TV series Law and Order UK. You'd be forgiven for forgetting that Bradley is also an actor as he's currently best known for his role as host on ITV show The Chase. However he has starred in Coronation Street playing Mike Baldwin's son Danny.
The BBC has yet to make an official announcement but Bradley has reportedly told friends he's "thrilled".
He was also the best selling male debut solo artist for 2016, is a comedian and a former professional footballer; a man of many talents!
According to sources the 57-year-old actor has found a way to work his ITV commitments around the new role so you'll still get to watch him on The Chase.
Doctor Who first hit TV screens back in 1963 and since then 12 actors have played the title role (13 if you include John Hurt as the War Doctor). Back in July it was announced that Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker would be the first woman doctor, taking over from Peter Capaldi.
Jodie said of joining the long-running BBC show, "It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope."
Current Doctor, Peter Capaldi, said of Jodie's appointment, "Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker’s work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part. She’s going to be a fantastic Doctor.”
Colin Baker, the sixth actor to play the Doctor also tweeted his support...
There's been no words as yet from Bradley on the new role.
