Line of Duty's Martin Compston has hinted that the sixth season of the show may in fact be the last, suggesting that the show's storyline may be nearing its end. Despite lumping this potentially devastating news on us all, he did provide us with a glimmer of hope, promising that the season finale this Sunday (2nd May) will give us "a lot of big answers".

Speaking on the Shrine of Duty podcast, Martin, aka DI Steve Arnott, gushed: "You know, people have stuck with us for such a long time," before continuing: "I think there comes a point where the natural story arc that's been running all these years is coming to an end."

Could this mean what we think it means?! Of course, absolutely nothing concerning a seventh season of Line of Duty has been confirmed yet, with Martin adding that the cast and crew "genuinely" don't know about the show's future.

Speaking on a potential seventh series, creator Jed Mercurio told the Radio Times: "We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series," continuing: "Since probably season four, we’ve been talking to the BBC about the realistic longevity of the series."

It's fair to say that Line of Duty season six has certainly kept us all on our toes, and as the show approaches its finale this Sunday (2nd May), we have a LOT of questions that need answering. Thankfully, Martin has given us a slight bit of relief, revealing: "There are a lot of big answers that are coming".

From mystery relatives, to the ongoing conundrum that is who on EARTH is the 'fourth man', otherwise known as 'H', the series has been packed with drama. Speaking on the Shrine of Duty podcast, Martin revealed there are "big answers" coming our way.

He then continued: "There are a lot of pay-offs coming this Sunday. There are a lot of big answers that are coming, and I think it's deserved."

We accept this news with open arms, given the show's tendency to leave us on some pretty epic cliffhangers.
