After the success of 2012's Hollywood blockbuster remake of Les Misérables, it's no surprise that there's another version on the way. The BBC announced that they would be making a TV adaptation of the 1862 Victor Hugo novel in 2016, four years after the Hugh Jackman-led film became a worldwide hit.

Now, show bosses have revealed the very first pictures of the new show, which will feature Lily Collins as the doomed Fantine, Dominic West as Jean Valjean and woman-of-the-moment Olivia Colman as comic relief in the form of character Madame Thenandier.

Although there's no exact release date just yet, we do know the series will air next year - and who will play the main characters in the TV series.

The TV show is being adapted from the novel by writer Andrew Davies, who penned the recent acclaimed series War And Peace which was itself an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's 1867 novel.

The series was announced back in 2016, when it was revealed this would be a dramatic adaptation with no songs, unlike the 2012 musical film and the stage show.

After announcing the TV show, Davies said, "Les Misérables is a huge iconic title. Most of us are familiar with the musical version which only offers a fragmentary outline of its story.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity of doing real justice to Victor Hugo at last by adapting his masterpiece in a six-hour version for the BBC, with the same team who made War & Peace."
