Roisin and Joe won't return for series 26

Following the latest celebrity series, popular Channel 4 show Gogglebox is set to return with a 26th series in the coming weeks, but we now know one popular couple won't be returning to join the cast!

Scottish couple Roisin and Joe, who have appeared on the show since series 19 back in 2022, have confirmed they won't be back for the upcoming series, despite fan favourites Jenny and Lee, Giles and Mary, Sophie and Pete and Ellie and Izzi all expected to return.

Sharing the news on TikTok, 28-year-old Roisin confirmed they've not been asked back by Channel 4, writing: 'After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family.

'We couldn't be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching tv with you all on Friday nights! It's been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don't actually need subtitles x'. (sic)

She went on to say: 'A special shout out to our crew of past and present, Jason, Ayse, Rich, Eilish, Ewan, Evie, Steve, David, Stef, AJ and Odin. Also to Harriet for always answering the phone, anytime of the day or night. We have made friends for life and after filming every week for years you have become like our family! We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely.

'A huge thank you to everyone who has watched us, met us, and supported us during this experience, it for sure has been a once in a lifetime opportunity. Time to watch tv in silence for a bit and put down the popcorn.

'Miss you already, Roisin and Joe xxx' (sic)

Clearly devastated and shocked by the news, fans of the Scottish pair were quick to react. One wrote: 'Loved you & Joe on Gogglebox. Won’t be the same without you 😌', with another writing: 'That’s rubbish, loved you two on gogglebox'. (sic)

Somebody else added: 'noooo, we love watching you both on Gogglebox, good luck for the future xx', with another writing: 'is this a joke?! you 2 are amazing on it and I actually smile as soon as you both appear on screen. 😩'. (sic)

When did Roisin and Joe join the show?

Gogglebox creators were on the hunt for Scottish families in 2021 following a number of complaints that no Scots had appeared on the show since 2016. Then, one year later in 2022, Roisin and Joe were cast and made their debut during series 19, going on to become fan favourites.

Confirming the news on social media at the time, Gogglebox's official account wrote: Meet our new Scottish Goggleboxers Roisin and Joe! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🎉 See you on the sofa for brand new #Gogglebox TONIGHT, 9pm on @Channel4.' (sic)

Gogglebox bosses were urged to scout more Scottish people for the show after former Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross questioned the broadcaster during a Scottish affairs committee meeting in Westminster.

At the time, Chief Executive Alex Mahon said: "It would be better to have a Scottish family and Channel 4 have now agreed a separate budget for a dedicated casting team specifically tasked with finding a suitable Scottish family.

"The casting period is already under way and will run up to Christmas. The ambition is to identify at least one Scottish family who will become part of the Gogglebox cast for the next series, which will air in the new year."

Who will appear on series 26?

Channel 4 bosses are yet to officially unveil the cast for the upcoming new series, or confirm if they are replacing Roisin and Joe, but fans would love to see the likes of Ellie and Izzi, Abbie and Georgia, and Dave and Shirley back.
