Gemma Atkinson jokes that Fleur East can "steal" Strictly pro boyfriend Gorka

Fleur will appear on Strictly Come Dancing this autumn

As Strictly Come Dancing bosses have delighted fans with the announcement of the growing 2022 celebrity line-up, we were especially pleased by the news that our very own Fleur East would be joining the show.

While she's no stranger to singing, we'll get to see her dance moves put to the test when the show starts in September. The exciting news about Fleur joining the Strictly line-up broke on Thursday 11th August, but we're still eagerly waiting to find out who she'll be partnered up with.

The 20th series will see four new professional dancers, as well as fellow Hits Radio presenter Gemma Atkinson's fiancé Gorka Márquez. As Fleur and Gemma got chatting about her appearance on the show, Gemma joked that the singer could "steal" Gorka.

While on Gemma and Mike Toolan's drivetime show, Mike asked what the chances were that Fleur and Gorka would be paired up. She replied to say she would feel bad taking Gorka away from Gemma, who is based in Manchester.

Gemma quipped back: "I don’t need him in Manchester all the time! Two days a week max."

She also revealed who Fleur might actually end up with saying: "I was talking to Gorka this morning and he asked ‘how tall is she’? I said I think around 5’4 or 5’5 and he said ‘Ok that’s either me, Nikita or Neil.’ That’s what he thinks because it’s all done off height. But of course, you could ask for a two-inch heel shoe and then you’re in the Graziano range!"

Reflecting on her own time on Strictly in 2017, Gemma said: "I asked for small heels because I was a nightmare. If I’d have been in a two-inch heel I probably would have got Brendan but I asked for a smaller heel and I got Alijaz!"

Sharing some final tips about the show, Gemma told Fleur that snacks were the key to getting through the rigorous training schedule, before jokingly warning that she had been the only contestant to put on weight during Strictly while "Everyone else shrank!"
