Given the success of HBO’s Game of Thrones over the last decade it seemed pretty obvious that production for a sister series would start once the final series had finished. So far we've found out that Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse will star and now we have a date (sort of) for filming to begin!

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that HBO's programming president Casey Bloys has said the as-yet-untitled project will begin production in early summer! That means we could have an air date of 2020 or 2021!

The spin-off is a White Walker origin story and will be set before Game of Thrones in the Age of Heroes. George RR Martin, author of the books that Game Of Thrones is based on, has posted on his website, “The pilot is not (yet) titled The Long Night. That is the title I prefer, but for the moment it is officially UNTITLED.”

Speaking about her role in the spin-off, Naomi Watts told Variety, "I don’t want to dig myself into a big hole here, all I want to say is that it’s very exciting – and nothing else.”

Unfortunately, the new show will not feature heartthrob Jon Snow, as Kit Harington has categorically ruled himself out of the project when asked by the BBC.

Season 8 of the epic franchise will air on the 15th of April at 2am on Sky Atlantic and we're all here for it. Watch the trailer below...

The cast have been sworn to secrecy, but Kit Harington revealed to Entertainment Weekly that when he told wife Rose Leslie the shocking ending, they didn't speak for three days!
