Emmerdale actress Sandra Marvin has announced that she's leaving the soap after playing Jessie Grant for two years. In an interview with OK! magazine, Sandra has revealed that she is heading off to pastures new after joining the soap in 2017.

Admitting that it's a risk to leave the soap, Sandra said that she wants to leave the soap in order to "challenge" herself - but confirmed that the soap wouldn't be killing Jessie off, which leaves a possibility of returning to the show in the future.

She told the publication, "There are so many amazing people looking for work and it’s a tough industry, but if you don’t challenge yourself you’ll never know. My last day will be emotional. There’s definitely going to be a wobbly lip!

"It’s been an amazing time on Emmerdale but I’m also excited to see what the future could hold. It was a really hard one as I love soaps and I always dreamed of being in one. I’ve had the most fantastic time."

Sandra is leaving the soap to take part in theatre show Thunder Girls alongside Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard and Loose Women's Coleen Nolan.

"Thank God they’ve left the door open, I’m very grateful for that. Prior to Emmerdale I had quite a diverse career and I’ve done a lot of theatre, plays and musicals, and solo concerts too. As a session singer, I recorded the title song on the sound track for the Oscar-winning film Gravity with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney."

The news comes after the arrival of Sandra's on-screen former partner, Al - played by Michael Wildman, the father of Jessie's son Ellis, who is set to cause ructions in the village.

Emmerdale airs every weeknight at 7pm on ITV, with a second showing on Tuesday nights at 8pm.
