Emmerdale fans breathed a sigh of relief last year when Lachlan White was taken to prison for his various crimes - including the murder of his mother and grandfather, Chrissie and Lawrence White. Not only that, but he also bumped off his best pal Gerry Roberts as well as conman Paul Tozer.

There's also the fact that he took his aunt Rebecca White hostage - and would have most likely murdered her as well, had she not escaped his clutches and scarpered out of that scary shack in the woods.

However, his former girlfriend Belle Dingle has become convinced that he's escaped prison, having been sent some dead flowers that she just knows are from him - despite her family's pleas that it's probably nothing to do with him.

But when Sam Dingle comes home covered in blood in tonight's episode (8th January) and reveals that Gloria the pig has been murdered, Belle is completely devastated and this just fuels her determination that Lachlan must be behind it all.

Worried about his sister, Sam takes Belle to prison to face Lachlan and find out what's really going on. Unsurprisingly, the killer denies all knowledge of the suspicious events, and Sam believes that he's changed.

Of course, Belle isn't fooled by Lachlan's act, but she can't get anything out of him during their chat in the prison. As soon as she leaves, Lachlan takes a secret mobile phone out to make a call to an associate - and instructs them to step things up a gear.

Later in the week, the Woolpack is the target of arson - and Vanessa Woodfield tackles the man starting it, who then stabs her. Could Lachlan be behind this too?

Emmerdale airs every weeknight at 7pm on ITV, with a second showing on Tuesday nights at 8pm.
