They are two of the biggest soaps in the UK, along with EastEnders and Hollyoaks, but viewers of ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street have noticed some VERY similar storylines between the two.

Emmerdale's big storyline at the moment involves Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw), sleeping rough as he struggles to deal with his finances, but fans have noticed some similarities to rival soap Corrie.

After the scenes aired earlier this week, fans of the two soaps were quick to take to social media, accusing Emmerdale bosses of 'copying' Coronation Street.

Comparing it to Corrie's storyline in 2018, which saw Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) sleeping in a tent after finding himself homeless, one fan wrote, '#emmerdale this Bob sleeping rough story is just like the recent Sean homeless story on Corrie, why do these soaps do the same stories.' sic

Another then added, 'Why doesn't Bob go into the cricket pavilion, everyone else uses it.#Emmerdale...this is same story line as Sean being homeless on #Corrie'. sic

With a third writing, 'The Bob in #Emmerdale storyline...oh no wait I mean the Sean in #Corrie storyline...oh hang on!!! #BothBoring'. sic

Meanwhile, despite the complaints, Emmerdale beat Coronation Street to be crowned the winners of the Best Serial award at this year's National Television Awards. Also victorious on the night was actor James Moore, who plays Ryan Stocks in Emmerdale.

James, who suffers from cerebral palsy, picked up the award for Best Newcomer.

It comes after it was reported that some long-running cast members on Coronation Street could be forced to take a 'pay cut', to avoid being 'axed' from the show.

According to reports, some of the soap's longest-running characters, such as William Roache (Ken Barlow), Helen Worth (Gail Platt), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), will be affected, due to the fact they have old style contracts.

Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street air on ITV.
