It is being reported that Coronation Street favourite Emily Bishop, who is played by actress Eileen Derbyshire, is set to return to the soap following an extended hiatus.

Eileen left the show back in November 2015 and despite her leave only supposed to be lasting 6 months, reports suggested the actress had left the show for good.

But now rumours are circulating that the soap favourite could be returning to the cobbles after her name appeared on a leaked list of characters that are set to return to the soap later in the year.

A source told a national newspaper, "She’s on a break and the door is open. There hasn’t been any contact from Eileen saying she intends to leave.”

Eileen first joined the cobbles back in 1961 with her first scenes airing on January 27th and quickly became a loved character with viewers of the soap, in most recent years for her witty relationship with character Norris Cole.

Eileen's character Emily is one of the longest standing on Coronation Street. Only fellow Corrie actor Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, has been on the soap longer.

In 2010 Eileen was awarded with an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for her services to drama and picked up the special award alongside her friend and co-star Barbara Knox.
