Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard AKA Liz McDonald has revealed that she's LEAVING the soap - but only temporarily. Beverley, who has played Liz on and off since 1989, told Christine Lampard on today's Lorraine show that she will be taking some time away from Corrie to focus on another, exciting acting opportunity.

Revealing that she's previously had to turn down opportunities due to her contractual agreements with the soap, the 61-year-old confirmed that she'd been allowed to step away from Weatherfield so that she can take part in stage show Thunder Girls.

She explained, "This is amazing. As an actor you get offered scripts all the time. But because I’m contracted to Coronation Street , which I love, it's very difficult to, even if you love a script, it's hard to say 'yes'.

"Everything has to be juggled. This script came to me and I said to my producer at Coronation Street 'I can’t say no to this, please let me do this'. It's a brand new play with four grown up women in it of an age."

The play, which is based on a novel, is apparently about an old girl band who are reuniting, but have a lot of things to discuss and get over.

Thankfully, Liz will return to the Street, telling Christine, "I love it. As you can imagine we get recognised wherever you go. Liz is loved so I appreciate that greatly.

"I just love it. I do think you get to an age as well where you don't care what other people think. As long as you don’t hurt people and u just live your life the best you can. Who cares what other people think."
