After a four year break, Black Mirror fans were over the moon when the Emmy-award winning Sci-fi show returned earlier this year for season six. The series, which featured a number of huge names, landed in June 2023, and now, the franchise's future has reportedly been revealed - and it's good news...

According to Variety, the dystopian Sci-fi show will be returning for a seventh season, after record-breaking viewing numbers on Netflix following season six's release. Although any further details on the next season are being kept under wraps, it is understood that it's set to go into production later this year - with Charlie Brooker, Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades allegedly returning as executive producers.

According to Netflix, Black Mirror season six reached the Top 10 in a whopping 92 countries, spending an impressive four weeks in the streaming platform's global Top 10 English-speaking TV.

The most recent season consisted of five parts, with huge names including Salma Hayek, Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Annie Murphy and Paapa Essiedu. Seasons before that have also included A-list names, such as That 70's Show's Topher Grace and pop megastar Miley Cyrus - who even released a song from her iconic episode.

Details on the cast and plot for season seven are yet to be revealed, with the show creators yet to confirm the exciting news themselves. We expect, however, that the upcoming season will give just as much a dystopian feel as its predecessors - with season six already tapping into the affects of AI.

With the AI-themed episode, titled Joan Is Awful, written before the AI program ChatGPT became a global phenomenon, show creator Charlie Brooker said during a London rally, in support of the 2023 writers strike: "I worry for a living — it’s generally what I do— and I’m very worried about AI and the use of ChatGPT and things like that", continuing: "That’s a particular concern to me, so that’s why I’m here."
