He has a brand-new album on the way

Jordan Lee caught up with Rag’n’Bone Man to chat about his new single ‘All You Ever Wanted’, his forthcoming album and excitement for the return of playing live.

It is hard to believe that it’s almost five years since Rag’n’Bone Man burst into the mainstream music world with his mega hit and Brit Award-winning track ‘Human’.

He has now returned with the first single ‘All You Ever Wanted’ taken from his forthcoming album, ‘Life By Misadventure’ released in April 2021.

Rag’n’Bone Man caught up with Jordan Lee to chat about the new record. He described the meaning behind the name of the much-anticipated record.

He said, “I called it ‘Life By Misadventure’ because I feel that it is like a timeline. There are certain songs about how I felt when I was younger and things that happened to how I feel now and my thoughts and worries about the future.

“It tells a story not only lyrically but musically, it starts off slow and stripped back and ends up in a Rock n Roll kind of place. I really wanted to tell a story musically as well.”

The new album is the follow up to the singer-songwriter’s 2017 debut offering ‘Human’ which went to number one in the charts.

Despite the album already being written prior to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown in 2020, he was still forced to take a different approach to recording.

He added, “We were lucky that it was all written before this happened. It could have been much more depressing, but all the songs were written beforehand and then when it came to making the album, we were in the middle of lockdown. I was stuck in Tennessee in the US for three weeks and had to self-isolate for two weeks and had one week to record the whole album! It was good to have the pressure though and it worked out perfectly.”

Despite having the album recorded, the ‘All You Ever Wanted’ singer finished off the record at home.

He continued, “We did it all at my house in my garden and my garage. We also built a little photo studio so we could do everything from home. The album is properly handmade, we did it all here! I’m very proud of this record.”

Like so many other artists, Rag’n’Bone Man hasn’t been able to perform, with his last being the 'Human Tour' in 2017.

He said, “For the last eight or nine years, I don’t think I’ve ever had a period of time where I didn’t play live. It feels like a limb has been cut off or something, it’s very strange. I haven’t done a show for a year and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time too soon, but there is hope on the horizon.”

Although he was looking forward to the possibility of live show at the end of the Summer, it’s finally spending time with his family he is most excited about.

He has a three-year-old son, Reuben, who he has been spending a lot of time with during the last year.

He said, “You know what? I’d like to go round to my mum’s for Sunday dinner to be honest.

“My mum and that side of the family don’t live far away from me but it’s hard. I’ve got a three-year-old, my mum misses her grandson, I miss my family. As soon as that time comes I’m going round for a Sunday roast!”

That sounds like a plan!
