2017 has been a massive year for collaborations, we've had Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé, Little Mix and CNCO and Justin Bieber, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, and it seems the trend will continue in 2018 as Liam Payne and Rita Ora have just dropped a MAJOR hint.

And it looks like it could be a very special collaboration for the soundtrack of the third installment of the Fifty Shades franchise.

Fans of the pair went into meltdown last night when both Liam and Rita teased the collab to their socials. Former One Direction singer Liam uploaded a photo of the pair dressed up with the caption '#fiftyshadefreed'.

Rita later uploaded the exact same photo to her own Instagram page.

Despite the pair giving no other details away, it looks like Liam could be following in his old friend Zayn Malik's footsteps and recording the official single for the movie.

Fifty Shades Freed will be the third installment of the popular franchise, and will follow on from Fifty Shades of Grey (2015) and Fifty Shades Darker (2017).

The new movie, which is set for release on Valentines Day in 2018, will conclude the storyline between main characters Christian and Ana, with a few twists and turns throughout.

Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik teamed up with Taylor Swift to record the track 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' for Fifty Shades Darker earlier this year.

The pair dropped the steamy video for the single, which kicks off with a smart looking Zayn stepping out of a swanky black car. As it pours with rain, the paparazzi fight to get a shot of the star as he makes his way into a hotel.

Check it out below:

Meanwhile Rita is no stranger to Fifty Shades, the singer has appeared in the two previous films as Mia Grey, Christian's younger sister.

We can't wait for more news about Rita and Liam's duet!
