Taking to his Instagram page to announce the exciting news, the 23-year-old wrote, 'Very happy to have signed to my new record label Capitol Records. They have such an amazing history of artists, I hope I can follow in their footsteps. One direction will always be my home and family but I'm very excited to see what this chapter brings.'
Since that moment on it has been a busy time for Liam. Not only did he pick up another BRIT Award with One Direction in January, he also became a dad for the first time when his girlfriend and former Girls Aloud star Cheryl gave birth to their son Bear.
Despite months of speculation about whether Cheryl was actually pregnant, the couple finally announced the birth back in March, much to the delight of fans.
Taking to Instagram to share a super cute snap of himself cradling his baby boy, Liam wrote, 'My close friends and family know there are very few times when I'm left speechless... wow!
'I'm incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it's a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far.'
'I'm completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this, she's really made my dreams come true. We haven't named him yet but he's already capturing hearts including mine. I feel very blessed.'
Since the birth Liam has been back and forward to America reportedly putting the finishing touches to his music and has continued to keep fans updated throughout on his socials.
As well as posting snaps in the recording studio, Liam has shared a number of videos to his Snapchat and Instagram pages teasing his music.
Liam will be hoping to mirror the success of his fellow band mate Harry Styles with his new material.
Harry released his track 'Sign Of The Times' last month and is dropping his debut album 'Harry Styles' tomorrow! (Friday 12th May 2017).
His track 'Sign Of The Times' quickly became a massive hit, reaching number one in the Official UK charts.
