Harry Styles reveals the idea behind the chilling music he wrote for Don't Worry Darling
Don't Worry Darling is out next month
Don't Worry Darling, the new film starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, and directed by his girlfriend Olivia Wilde, is out next month. In the run up to the eagerly-anticipated release, Olivia and Harry have revealed details of the music Harry has written for the feature.
Speaking to Variety, Olivia explained: "Any great actor is also a screenwriter in the process. They are responsible for creating the life of the character, so they bring so many ideas."
Throughout the film, Alice (played by Florence Pugh), can be heard humming a mysterious song, which is featured prominently throughout, and it turns out Harry wrote it it just FIVE minutes!
Olivia told how Harry offered to write the melody, which was described as a 'trigger song' in the script, and he did it super quick!
The director said: "In prep, Harry called me and said, 'What’s the trigger song? Like, what’s the melody?' I said, 'I don’t know. I’m going to different writers to write it. Do you have anything in mind?' And he said, 'I’ll think about it.'"
She continued: "Five minutes later, he sent me a demo from his piano, and it was what ended up in the film. He called me and said, 'What about this?' And I was like, 'Yeah, that’s it. That’s it. And that’s really insane that you did that in five minutes.'"
Harry explained more about the piece that he wrote saying: "I wanted something that could be both sweet and creepy, entirely dependent on the context. I remember first playing it on the piano, and it had a sort of homemade nursery rhyme feel to it. Applied to the different moments in the film, I think it takes on a couple of different lives - I hope."
And although Harry doesn't sing in the film he does dance, saying: "'Twas I, tap-dancing. I feel like I’ve been waiting for someone to require a 35-second tap routine from me my whole life."
Don't Worry Darling is set for release on 23rd September, and so far two trailers have been released for the film, including one that shows the sinister side of the film.
Harry Styles has starred in a number of TV and film roles. Don't Worry Darling is just one of two films that Harry will star in this year, the other being My Policeman, which is due out in cinemas on 21st October and will join Prime Video on 4th November.
