EXCLUSIVE: Fleur East chats to Jason Derulo about brand-new track 'Lifestyle'
He collaborated with Adam Levine on the catchy tune
Fleur East caught up with pop superstar Jason Derulo to chat about his new single ‘Lifestyle’ featuring Adam Levine.
The catchy track, which follows Derulo’s last single ‘Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)’ released in 2020, was debuted on Tik Tok, with both musicians ‘duetting’ to announce their collaboration.
Fleur chatted to Derulo about recording the track during lockdown. He said, “Making music in this time hasn't really changed. Most collaborations happen through just sending files. So that's exactly what happened in this predicament as well.”
Although Derulo and Levine seem like a surprise collaboration having never worked together previously, Derulo added that he had always been a huge fan of the Maroon 5 frontman.
He added, “I've been a fan of Maroon five since I was a kid. So to have them on the record I think is really, really special."
On choosing the collaboration, he explained that there was only one person he felt could perform the song as he intended. He explained, “For this particular song. I couldn't hear anybody else on it, honestly. For me, it was either Adam or it wasn't going to be anybody.”
In the past, Derulo has worked with huge artists including Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and David Guetta, but insists he doesn’t have a ‘dream list’ of collaborations, but prefers them to come organically.
“Collaborations should be organic, they should be just what feels right at that moment. So it's not like, there's a list of people that I'm necessarily trying to work with. It doesn’t work for me like that in my mind.”
His last track ‘Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)’ went viral on Tik Tok as app users choreographed dances to the song. Derulo hopes that ‘Lifestyle’ will have the same effect.
“When you when you listen to this one, I want you to definitely make sure you have got your dancing shoes on. You’ve got to turn this one up.”
