Britney Spears announces 'work hiatus' after her dad 'almost died'
She's released a statement
Superstar singer Britney Spears has postponed her upcoming 'Britney: Domination' residency in Las Vegas and revealed she's going on a 'indefinite work hiatus' following her dad Jamie Spears' recent heath scare.
Britney was due to start her run at the new Park MGM resort in Las Vegas in February, but in a statement released on social media, the singer revealed she's taking time off to care for her sick dad.
Sharing a photo of herself as a child alongside her mum and dad, the 'Toxic' singer wrote, 'I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.' sic
Fans of the singer were quick to send their support, one user wrote, 'I bought a ticket but I understand family comes first ❤️,' with another adding, 'Thinking of you🙏💕 We love you❤️'. Another then added, 'Prayers for your dad. I could not imagine my life without mine... 🙏🙏🙏'. sic
Although Britney didn't give any details about her dad's illness, it's being reported that Jamie was rushed to hospital and admitted to surgery in November 2018 after his colon ruptured.
As stated in her recent statement, fans should visit Britney's official website for refunds of tickets.
Britney first announced that she would be returning to Las Vegas in October last year, with her new show 'Britney: Domination'.
Her last residency, which started in 2013 at Planet Hollywood, eventually came to an end in 2017 after a number of extensions due to high demand saw her perform a whopping 250 shows.
