The Script reveal they spent £22K on ONE round of drinks 😱
They were celebrating!
Last updated 2nd Dec 2019
We caught up with The Script backstage at Hits Live Birmingham ahead of their incredible performance at the Resorts World Arena, and they told us all about their recently released album, 'Sunsets & Full Moons'.
But they also told us an incredible story about how they once spent a whopping £22,000 on a round of drinks! Speaking to Jordan Lee, Mark Sheehan spoke about their upcoming tour, "It’s almost sold out already, and one of the things we’ve always set out was to be the most interactive band on the planet. We always say this and every year we try outdo ourselves.
"Last year when we did at the Freedom Charter we bought the biggest round of drinks in history," he explained, as his bandmate Danny O'Donoghue added, "Yes, 8,000 drinks - do you know how much the bar bill was? £22,000. Imagine me waking up the next morning and checking my wallet, I was like, 'Oh no'."
The boys also told us their wildest tour story, with Mike explaining that Danny once broke his actual foot on-stage at Wembley! Danny said, "We always do, there’s always something that goes down."
Mike explained, "He broke his foot one time - we were playing at Wembley Stadium, and he broke his foot live on stage and had to do the remainder of the show with a broken foot," and Danny admitted, "I had to carry on with the rest of the show with a broken foot."
The band also opened up about their Christmas plans, with Mike saying, "It gets more chilled a little bit, but Dan every year; fairness to him goes to a children’s hospital in Dublin and he’s been doing it there for over 10 years.
"It’s built up now from just himself going down and gives up his Christmas Day for this and there are a lot of kids that are very, very happy. He plays music for them, sings to them and brings a lot of joy to the kids. Now it has built up in Ireland where lots of musicians join him."
Danny added, "They have the Lord Mayor come down and it has been an amazing journey. Shout out to everybody at Temple Street Hospital as well, mainly John who organises it - I just kind of swan in and take all the gifts, but you know what it’s a great day.
"Something to do on the day because after my father passed away, Christmas was always a horrible day. So I just wanted to change the energy, but the nurses really deserve all of it because they are there every day, but the tradition is to do that and then at about 3 o'clock I’m at home with the family."
The Script have been on the music scene for over 10 years now, leaping into the spotlight in 2008 with 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' which featured on their self-titled Number 1 album.
After a few years off, the band released 'The Last Time' in September this year and will feature on their next album 'Sunsets & Full Moons', which is set to be released in November. They'll also be taking to the road to promote the album on a tour.
