To celebrate our super-exciting Ultimate Pop Weekend on Hits Radio, Shaggy joined Wes and Sheree from his home studio in New York, where he's been in lockdown.
LISTEN: Shaggy says 'Hot Shot' was a groundbreaking album
Speaking to Wes and Sheree, Shaggy reminisced about his Number 1 selling album from 20 years ago, 'Hot Shot'. He joined us from the studio where he created a number of his big hits, including 'Angel', 'It Wasn't Me' and the 'Hot Shot' album.
"It's amazing, 'Hot Shot' was the album that was a diamond-selling album," Shaggy explained, "It's a groundbreaking album for the genre and culture of reggae music, because at that time when it came out, dance hall music was not as popular as it is today and played on radio. And 'It Wasn't Me' really kind of broke the barriers down to be on mainstream radio."
Shaggy also confirmed, to celebrate 20 years since the release of his album, he will be releasing 'Hot Shot 2020'. The new album will feature new versions of some of his biggest hits, including some collabs such a number of songs with The Police's lead singer, Sting.
The first single to come from 'Hot Shot 2020' is 'It Wasn't Me' featuring Rayvon, and we LOVE the updated version of the biggest selling single of 2001.
Like many of us, both Wes and Sheree are working from home, and in Sheree's case, from her closet, something that Shaggy couldn't resist talking about during their video call.
"Are you in a department store or something?!" Shaggy exclaimed, "It looks like you literally walked into a store. Wow!"
He later went on to say, "I've never had an interview from a closet."
You can hear songs by Shaggy on Hits Radio.
