Miley Cyrus says she will always love Liam as she reveals reason for split
The Hollywood couple announced their divorce last year
Last updated 7th Dec 2020
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were both teenagers the first time they appeared on our screens in the super emotional movie ‘The Last Song’ in 2010. This on-screen romance soon turned in to real life as they then became one of the most popular Hollywood couples.
The couple, who were together for ten years, sadly announced they had finalised their divorce back in January this year, following their shock split in August 2019 after eight months of marriage.
Speaking in an interview with an American radio station on Wednesday (2nd December) while promoting her new album, 'Plastic Hearts', which is currently sitting at Number 4 in the UK charts, Miley spoke about why the two called it a day on their long-term relationship.
Back in 2018, they lost everything in a fire at their Malibu home, including sentimental belongings such as Miley's old TV and movie scripts, every song she had ever written and family memorabilia such as polaroids of Elvis.
After going through such a devastating time, Miley has admitted she turned all her attention to Liam - as they felt they only had each other left, they decided to get married following their long engagement.
The 'Midnight Sky' singer said "We were together since 16. Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged - I don't know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married." Miley also admitted, "I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him."
Their marriage may have been short, but Miley said, “I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.” So at least we know that one of our favourite couples are still on good terms.
Miley's new album ‘Plastic Hearts’ featuring one of the biggest tracks of the year ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Prisoner’ with Dua Lipa, came out last week and she has opened up about starting the album two years ago and the effects the fire had on her work. In an emotional post shared on Instagram the singer said, “I lost my house in a fire but found myself in its ashes.”
Miley then went on to add “If it were a chapter in my book, I guess I would call it ‘The Beginning’ which usually when something is over, we call it ‘The End’. But it was far from that.’ We are super happy to have new music from Miley and can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!
