Megan Barton-Hanson reveals her ‘whole world is crumbling’ following Wes Nelson split
They split over the weekend
Megan Barton-Hanson was catapulted to fame when she appeared on the 2018 series of hit reality show Love Island, finishing in fourth place alongside Wes Nelson.
Despite the pair looking smitten when they left the villa, the fairytale ended last weekend, when Megan confirmed in a now iconic statement that they'd gone their separate ways.
After watching her ex-boyfriend and her arch-enemy, Wes's Dancing On Ice partner Vanessa Bauer, perform an amazing routine on Sunday night's show, Megan has now taken to her social media accounts to reveal her 'whole world is crumbling',
Opening up to her followers on her Instagram Story, Megan wrote, 'Hands down been one of the worst day of my Life. I can't thank you all enough for the support. It makes it all worth while, (The endless trolling, negative stories, Dealing with publicly breaking up, Being papped having to force a smile when my whole world is crumbling.)'
She then added, 'Feels like I can't put a foot right BUT knowing I can help motivate/Inspire people even a TINY bit Makes me want to continue on in the public eye. I'm Determined to make 2019 a positive happy year.'
Megan's heartfelt message comes just hours after Wes seemingly mocked her break-up statement, sharing memes that fans had created of their hamster... which they've vowed to co-parent.
After looking very loved-up at the National Television Awards last week, Love Island fans were left in shock on Saturday afternoon when Megan confirmed the couple's split. She wrote a somewhat joking message on Instagram that read, 'It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate, We have been working hard for well under a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.'
She continued, 'We are however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to one incredibly wonderful hamster and we ask for his and out space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We haven't really conducted our relationship that privately , and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner. Love, Megan & Wes'.
Megan later posted another follow up comment that was slightly more serious. She wrote, 'In all seriousness, I am so grateful and so blessed to have found Wes, I will always love and adore him and I am so lucky to call him my best friend, it has been an incredibly hard decision to make for both of us but we are both looking forward to moving on together as friends and supporting each other in everything we do. I will be down at Dancing On Ice tomorrow to watch him smash i again. Only one thing left to say come on Wes and Vanessa'.
Of course, Megan and Wes aren't the only couple from the 2018 series to have split since the show ended.
Winners Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer had one of the quickest break-ups in history, before announcing they were back on. The likes of Sam Bird and Georgia Steel, Paul Knopps and Laura Anderson, and Charlie Brake and Ellie Brown have also split.
