Speaking about the nomination, Kym said “I’m absolutely delighted to be nominated for an NTA. I’m just so happy to have been put forward for this award. I’ve never been up for Serial Drama Performance in the ten years that I’ve been there, so I’m really double excited.”

When asked if it’s the award every actor wants to win, Kym told us that being nominated for a dramatic performance award is ‘huge’ and gives her a ‘validation’ that she is doing a good job on the show.

As well as talking about her recent nomination, Kym also exclusively told our entertainment team about her character’s storyline regarding the genetic disease Myotonic Dystrophy.

Kym’s character Michelle is going through a tough time as her husband Steve McDonald discovered both himself and his unborn children could inherit the generic disease. In a recent episode, Steve told Michelle that he could have passed on the disease.

Speaking about the current storyline, Kym told us, “I think it’s really important that we highlight subject matters like this as essentially it is bringing important matters into people’s living rooms three nights a week, I think that’s the beauty of soap really. It touches so many people who may not have read about certain subjects and issues."

She went on to add, “People who are going through tough times themselves, soaps may cover those particular subjects, for instance when Steve was going through male depression we had so many people write it and say how much it had helped them because they were going through a similar thing. It can really just help people in general.”

The storyline is set to play out on Coronation Street in the coming months.
