Kanye West will receive a prestigious lifetime achievement award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles this weekend.

The divisive rapper will get the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his "ground-breaking videos, legendary performances and continued impact on music, art, fashion and culture."

Kanye will follow in the footsteps Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears who all received the ceremony’s highest honour.

David Bowie, The Beatles and film director Richard Lester were the first recipients of the lifetime achievement award at the very first MTV VMAs ceremony back in 1984.

Other artists in the hall of fame include Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Duran Duran and, of course, Michael Jackson.

The truly unstoppable Taylor Swift leads the nominations charge at this year’s ceremony with an incredible 10 nods.

Taylor’s nomination for ‘Bad Blood’ in the Video of the Year category caused Nicki Minaj to infamously hit out on Twitter.

When Taylor retaliated, her arch nemesis Katy Perry weighed into the argument before Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars poked fun by having a fake Twitter spat.

Hosted by Miley Cyrus, The MTV VMAs take place at the Microsoft Theatre on Sunday night (30th August).
