'Love Me Again' singer John Newman joined us backstage at Hits Live to talk about his pre-show rituals, what's usually on his rider, and why he shed a little tear when he made his big comeback earlier this year. The 29-year-old also opened up about how Christmas will be different for him this year, admitting it will be the first time he has spent it away from his family.

Back in the summer John married his Danish wife Nana, at the time posting some stunning wedding photos. Speaking to Hits Radio's Jordan, he revealed he will be spending Christmas with his wife's family in Denmark, and it will be a bit strange because it's the first time he hasn't spent it with his family.

Joking with Jordan, John said, "Normally I'd go to the pub and me and my brother would stand either side of the bar and kinda watch each other drink, and then go home and sleep on the sofa."

However, as this year will be different for him, John explained, "It's actually the first year I'm not spending Christmas with my family. I'm a man now... I'm a grown up now!" Aww.

John performed his biggest songs at Hits Live last month, including 'Love Me Again' and 'Without You', his most recent collaboration with Nina Nesbitt. Backstage, he also revealed why he shed a little tear when he made his comeback to music.

John explained, "It's amazing, I actually shed a tear the other day. I'm 29 now and my career started with an absolute bang and people are like 'no don't talk about that only be positive'. There is a challenge that comes in a career of length.

"I think I hit my challenges with my illness and with my mental heath based around my job and everything. I woke up one day and said 'I can't do that anymore', and it was either do I stop the job or do I go for this and see where I can really take it."
