Joe Wicks awarded with Guinness World Record for online PE lessons
Joe has been keeping the nation fit!
Fitness fanatic Joe Wicks took it upon himself to become the nation's PE teacher when Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that UK schools would be shutting to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, but he's certainly achieved more than he ever imagined.
As well as keeping us all fit by giving daily workouts on his YouTube channel, Joe revealed he would be donating 100% of the profits to the NHS, and now he's broken a Guinness World Record!
The 33-year-old's live workout on Tuesday 24th March smashed viewing records for a live workout on YouTube, with a massive 955,158 tuning in around the world.
Taking to his Instagram account to announce the news and thank fans, Joe said, “I had no idea that when I went live on my YouTube workout on March 24, that we were actually setting a world record.
“So thank you to everyone that tuned in – I’m so proud that this is our record, and we can remember that day as the moment we got the most viewers for a live work out.”
Joe also told fans, 'Woooo we got a new @guinnessworldrecords for #pewithjoe 😝🌏🏆🎉 I still can’t believe how many people are tuning in each day from around the world. Today we had families in Fiji, Russia, Madagascar, India, Oman, Zimbabwe, Peru, Finland, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea. How amazing is that? Thank you to @youtube for letting me reach so far and wide and thanks to everyone taking part. This is OUR world record 🌏❤️🙏🏼'. (sic)
And this isn't the only reward Joe has received in the last week! Just yesterday, the dad-of-two, who is currently recovering from a broken wrist, announced he now has over 2 million subscribers to his YouTube page, earning him a 'golden play button' from the video sharing service.
He wrote, 'Look what just arrived 😬🎉 My gold play button. Thank you to everyone who subscribes to The Body Coach TV and to those who don’t subscribe but still view my workouts 💪🏽😀 3 weeks ago I had only 800k subscribers and today I have 2.2million which is just mind blowing 🤯 I’ve worked so hard on this since I shared my first workout video in 2011. I want to say a big thank you to @nikkiwicks and @dom_seymour my brother and best mate who have been there with me every step of the way and helped me shoot, edit and share every single workout 🌍❤️ This is our community’s award. Let’s keep growing. Next stop 10 million subscribers and the diamond 💎 play button 🔮 Thank you @youtube for this amazing gift 🙌🏽😀'. (sic)
