Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow file for divorce
They have confirmed the end
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Hollywood actress Gywneth Paltrow have filed for divorce.
The couple had previously announced they were “consciously uncoupling” before documents were filed in LA on Monday, confirming the end of their 11 year marriage.
Paltrow cited irreconcilable differences and requested joint custody of their two children, Apple and Moses.
When the couple announced their decision to separate in March 2014, they said they had “come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate.”
They also added that they had been “working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us”.
“We are, however, and always will be a family, and many ways we are closer than we have ever been,” they wrote.
"We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
"We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."
Confirmation of the divorce follows days of speculation that Paltrow had filed the papers.
According to reports, the documents do not list any details of how they will divide their significant assets – however both will pay their own lawyers’ fees.
Martin and Paltrow married in a secret ceremony in December 2013, shortly after they announced the pregnancy of their first child.
