Despite their well publicised falling out, pop stars Cheryl and Sarah Harding clearly still care for each other, having spent over 10 years in girl band Girls Aloud together, touring the world and gaining four UK Number 1 singles.
And despite Cheryl taking a break from social media in recent times, the mum-of-one has today broken her silence, following the news that her former band mate Sarah has breast cancer which has now advanced to other parts of her body.
Just moments after Sarah's heartbreaking post this morning (Wednesday 26th August), Cheryl updated her feed for the first time since the beginning of May, simply writing, '💔'.
Whilst a lot of Cheryl's followers asked the 'Call My Name' singer what her post was about, others knew it was linked to Sarah's devastating news, with many sending messages of support.
Sharing a photo of herself in hospital on her Instagram page, former Celebrity Big Brother star Sarah revealed details of her diagnosis, admitting her breast cancer has now advanced to other parts in her body.
The 38-year-old wrote, 'Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping safe and well during these uncertain times. I’ve not posted on here for so long, thank you to everyone who has reached out to check in on me, it really does mean a lot.
'I feel now is the right time to share what’s been going on. There’s no easy way to say this and actually it doesn’t even feel real writing this, but here goes.
'Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body. I’m currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy sessions and I am fighting as hard as I possibly can.
'I understand this might be shocking to read on social media and that really isn’t my intention. But last week it was mentioned online that I had been seen in hospital, so I feel now is the time to let people know what’s going on and this is the best way I can think of to do so.'
Going on to thank her family and the NHS, Sarah added, 'My amazing mum, family and close friends are helping me through this, and I want to say a thank you to the wonderful NHS doctors and nurses who have been and continue to be heroes.
'I am doing my very best to keep positive and will keep you updated here with how I’m getting on. In the meantime I hope you’ll all understand and respect my request for privacy during this difficult time.
'Sending you all so much love….xx'. (sic)
Sarah's other Girls Aloud band mate Nadine Coyle was quick to comment on her friend's post, writing, 'I love you!!!! You have always been able to achieve miracles when needed!! I am here for the all the way & always will be!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👑👑👑⭐️⭐️⭐️'. (sic)
Former Girls Aloud make-up artist Lisa Laudat also commented, writing, '@sarahnicoleharding I am so sad 😭 to hear this !! I am sending you love and peace , praying 🙏 for u xx 💋'. (sic)
Rumours have been rife recently that all five members of Girls Aloud, Sarah Harding, Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, could reunite in 2022 as the band are due to celebrate their 20th anniversary since forming on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.
