Brexit: The Internet reacts
Voters on both sides took to Twitter...
People have voted for the UK to leave the EU and as expected there’s been a huge reaction on Twitter, with people voicing their feelings through memes, pictures and videos.
The Leave campaign won with a 51.9% majority and disappointed Remain voters, along with pleased Leave voters, reacted on Twitter.
It’s been a historic occasion and is 41 years since the UK last voted on the subject. It also had the highest turnout for a national poll since 1992.
Prime Minister David Cameron has since revealed he will be stepping down in October and former London mayor Boris Johnson is currently tipped as the favourite to replace him.
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says it's 'highly likely' that another Scottish independence referendum will take place following the result as she said Scotland was being taken out of the EU 'against its will'.
Meanwhile UKIP leader Nigel Farage called for the 23rd June to be a national day, saying today would 'go down in history as our independence day'.
Boris Johnson shared similar views and said the events would give the UK an opportunity to 'find its voice in the world again'.
