Police say the incidents caused 'extensive damage'

Police cordons have been set up around two shops in Scunthorpe after attempted ram raids overnight.

The incidents caused 'extensive damage' to premises on Willoughby Road and on the High Street.

It is believed both vehicles had been stolen earlier that evening.

Humberside Police have issued the following statement:

"At around 2.40am and 3.00am, we received reports that two cars had been deliberately driven into the shutters of two shops on Willoughby Road and High Street in attempt to raid the stores, causing extensive damage.

"Officer swiftly attended and recovered both vehicles believed to be involved, after the suspects allegedly fled the scene in another vehicle.

"Following lines of enquiries, the vehicles thought to be involved in the raids were reportedly stolen from a house on Glover Road earlier that evening.

"Scene guards remain in place at both addresses whilst officers carry out lines of enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, this includes reviewing CCTV footage from the area."
