A man who subjected young children to years of sexual abuse has been sentenced to a total of 12 years behind bars.

Aaron Adams, 40, was found guilty of sexual offences against a child at Grimsby Crown Court last month.

He was charged with eight counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and breach of a sexual harm prevention order and entered a not guilty plea.

Following a six-day trial, the jury unanimously found Adams guilty of all offences and was sentenced to 12-years in prison.

The 40-year-old was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and lifetime restraining order.

"The victims showed incredible courage"

Inspector Gemma Walker from our Protecting Vulnerable People Unit made the following comments upon sentencing: “The victims showed incredible courage to come forward and talk about the abuse they were subjected to even despite Adams refusing to admit everything he put them through over a period of three years.

“I would like to commend them for their bravery and patience throughout the duration of the court proceedings, and whilst it does not take away the trauma they’ve suffered, I hope the result seen in court will play some part in helping them move forward with their lives.

“It can be daunting to take the first step in reporting offences of this nature, but through these reports, we are able to gather evidence to build a strong case and ultimately help eradicate this abhorrent behaviour from our communities.

“We would encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of, or has witnessed sexual crimes, in any form, to please contact us as soon as possible via our non-emergency number 101. Always call 999 in an emergency or if you are in immediate danger”.
