A man has died following a house fire in Hull.

Emergency crews were called to a property on Wawne Lodge in Bransholme this morning, after a member of the public reported seeing smoke coming from a property.

An adult male and a dog were rescued, with the man given medical assistance at the scene. However, he died a short while later.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: "Emergency services were called to attend a property on Wawne Lodge, Hull following reports of a fire at 8.50am this morning.

The fire was extinguished and upon entering the property a man was provided with medical assistant however died at the scene a short while later.

"Officers are working with the Fire Service, who will look to establish the cause of the fire, however at this time, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death."

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire & Rescue said: "A member of the public called 999 after seeing smoke coming from a house on Wawne Lodge, Hull this morning at 8.35 am.

"We sent three fire engines and the first arrived within 5 minutes from Bransholme Fire Station.

"An adult male and dog were rescued by our firefighters and handed over to paramedics at the scene."
