Victim support in Hull say they’re helping those affected by the Hull Legacy funeral Director scandal prepare for the next steps.

At last night’s monthly vigil – the team spoke to families about how they’re helping people write victim statements.

Julie Butcher Is the senior operations manager at Victim Support, she said:

"The support really is, it's what that person needs. So there isn't a right way or a wrong way to feel about what's happened. And I think what we are learning from working on this with people is that it's up to people what support they want, how they want it, as we've been helping people with what's called a victim personal statement.

"So that's an opportunity for people that the police obtained statements from to talk about the impact on them. So we're helping people formulate what they want to say, what they want to say about the impact we can provide advocacy, and that's what we do in all of our services across victim support.

Every month families affected by the Legacy funeral scandal gather to say a prayer and light a candle.

Karen Dry organises them, she said:

"I think it's wonderful that we've now got the wider community coming to show support. It is really important for the people that are literally in the thick of this, the people directly affected by this need to know that they're being supported.

"And to see community police officers and victim support here tonight was lovely.

"Communication is key with this. We need to know that we haven't been forgotten about on a monthly basis, which is why we have the vigils to make sure that we all can come and see some community, solidarity, community support, and it's really important.

"And Christmas is around the corner. Quite a vulnerable time" of the year for some people, and I do feel like coming to the vigils does help.
