The mum of a man who lost his life after he was punched on a night out with friends in Hull is urging people to think about the consequences it has on loved ones

31 year old Scott Akester died two years ago - his mum Debbie wants to raise awareness ahead of people heading out this 'Mad Friday'.

Debbie Akester has been going into schools and communities across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire delivering important messages, she said:

"Arguments can be sorted out the next day, but if people do start, they do punch out, then potentially the outcome could be that somebody could either lose a life or have severe brain injuries, which obviously will change their life forever.

"The devastation caused to us as a family since losing Scott has been absolutely horrendous. Scott was our only son near me. His partner is now bringing up their daughter as a single parent, and Ella has now lost her daddy for the rest of her life. Our lives have changed forever.

"Who wants to be taken a 6-year-old child to a cemetery at Christmas time, it's horrendous.

"Really what we've had to go through since we lost got two years ago, and our lives have changed forever.

"We are continuing to go into schools and workplaces, delivering our message, our talks, to speak to as many people as possible. And as part of this, we always ask our audience to take our leaflets home with them and talk to their friends and family about our stories.

"Keep everybody as safe as possible and look after your friends and look after each other on a night out. And if anything looks like it's going to start to escalate into a fight, our confrontational situation, think and walk away."
