Cycling Grand Prix race returns to Beverley for first time since 2017
The event starts at 4pm, with professional rides from 7pm
The Beverley Grand Prix is returning to the town later, with over 300 riders taking part across six events.
It was last held back in 2017, with a previous winner of the men's event - Ed Clancy set to return later.
Ed's a three-time Olympic gold medal winning cyclist, having competed at Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Now retired from professional cycling, Ed said: “What I love about these circuit races in town centres is it brings cycling to the people, rather than expecting people to follow cycling out to a moorside somewhere, it brings cycling right into the heart of some beautiful cities and towns across the UK.
“Beverley was a great example. The fact that it’s back on the calendar this year is great news.
“I’ve got fond memories myself from winning a national championship there, and I’ve also got memories of crashing into barriers and all sorts, it’s always an exciting race.
“There’s a great cobbled finish straight and it’s great to see it back on the calendar.”
People are being encouraged to line the streets to watch, with it being free to attend.
It starts at 4pm when the Beverley Community Ride takes place around a circuit of the town.

1725 - Under 14s and Under 16s
1800 - Regional support races
1900 - National Circuit Series Women
2000 - National Circuit Series Men
Road closures and disruption
To put on an event of this nature, East Riding of Yorkshire Council have had to close a number of roads in the town from 2pm today (26th July) lasting until after the event finishes at 10pm.
Sow Hill, Old Walkergate, Railway Street, Lord Roberts Road, and Cross Street will all be shut to vehicles.
For pedestrians, areas in Butcher Row, Toll Gavel and Wednesday Market will be closed off.
A number of car parks are set to be shut too, ERYC say Saturday Market, Wednesday Market, School Lane, Spencer Street and Lord Roberts Road will be shut until 11pm.
Beverley Bus Station is also due to be closed until after the event.
