A man has died following a fatal single vehicle collision along the East Yorkshire coast on Monday evening (April 21st).

Officers from North Yorkshire Police were alerted to an incident that took place on the B1249 Driffield Road at around 8:25pm.

The force were made aware of a car that had been driven into a field by a member of the public, which prompted officers to inspect the area.

When responders arrived at the scene, the initially were unable to find a problem and thus left the scene.

However, three hours later officers were called out to the area once again after a black Peugeot 207 had been found behind a hedge at around 11pm.

The car had been discovered close to the junction with York Road, with the driver of the car still inside.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but the driver of the car - a 46-year-old man - was pronounced dead by paramedics.

The driver's next of kin has been informed and the man's family are being supported by specialist officers from North Yorkshire Police.

The force are now appealing to anyone who may have been driving in the area around 8pm and 8:30pm on Monday evening to get in touch as soon as possible.

As well as this, North Yorkshire Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct to "understand the full circumstances" of the crash.

In particular, investigators are looking for anyone who may have dashcam footage, as well as those who may have seen the car go into the field itself.

Anyone who may be able to help in the investigation is being urged to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 413 from April 21st.
